About institute:

• First developed by Brian Mulligan ONZM, F.N.Z.S.P. (Hon), Dip. M.T., in Wellington, New Zealand, this simple yet effective manual approach has been taught internationally since 1984.

• Since 1995, the MULLIGAN Concept Teachers Association (MCTA) has been dedicated to providing high-quality training in the MULLIGAN Concept. Its principal objective is to disseminate Mulligan's intellectual legacy internationally.

• A group of instructors from around the world are accredited to teach the MULLIGAN Concept.

• Brian Mulligan devised this therapeutic procedure. He discovered that moving the joints in certain directions painlessly can correct the misalignment of joints (Positional Fault), producing instant, such as:- Pain relief/treatment, Enhanced range of motion and better musculoskeletal structural functioning. In order to attain the proper angle of movement and correct the Positional Fault, the therapist mobilize the joints with hands and/or with the Mulligan belt. The belt is also used for: Relieving the load on the therapist and Increasing the forces influencing manual therapy.

Program description:

• Courses are designed to provide significant hands-on learning experience; self-treatment concepts, taping, and clinical reasoning to apply mobilization with movement to patients. It is expected that participants will receive research information and evidence-based practice in the application of manual therapy techniques developed by Brian Mulligan.

• MULLIGAN Concept curriculum formats differ slightly from region to region. There are six days of in-person lectures throughout the whole course.

Course objectives:

• Discuss the fundamental differences between the Mulligan Concept approach from other classic manual therapy approaches.

• Identify the historical background of the Mulligan manual therapy concept.

• Defining the minor positional fault hypothesis and notion of Mobilization with Movement.

• Understanding of the MWM effects based on the evolving neurophysiological mechanism of action.

• Explain the biomechanical bases of the recommended mobilization force direction.

• Understand Manual Therapy indications, precautions & contraindications.

• Understand the rationale and principles behind Mulligan manual therapy techniques for the spine, upper, and lower limbs joints.

• Evaluate patients using Mulligan manual therapy techniques.

• Explain the Mulligan Manual Therapy techniques for most common spinal and peripheral musculoskeletal disorders.

• Familiarize with how to apply and practice the pain release phenomenon (PRP) for non-responding chronic conditions.

• Familiarize with how to apply and practice the joints repositioning taping techniques.

• Familiarize with how to apply and practice neuropathic pain techniques.

• Demonstrate the self-treatment MWM exercises.

• Integrating Mulligan Manual Therapy with other treatment modalities

• Integrate updated researches on the Mulligan Manual Therapy Concept.

Module I : Cervical Spine & Upper Quadrant (Basic & Advanced):

This 3-day course presents the MULLIGAN™ approach to manual therapy for the Cervical and Thoracic spine as well as for the upper extremity. It includes lecture, patient demonstrations, and lab time to give the participants a thorough and in depth coverage of the Mobilization With Movement approach basic and advanced techniques.

Module II : Lower Quarter, Lumbar Spine & SIJ joint (Basic & Advanced):

This 3-day course presents the MULLIGAN approach to manual therapy for the lumbar spine and sacroiliac joint as well as for the lower extremity. It includes lecture, patient demonstrations, and lab time to give the participants a thorough and in-depth coverage of the Mobilization With Movement approach basic and advanced techniques.

Mulligan Exam :

This 2-day will include reviewing module I & II and all participants will be examined theoretical and practical exam by 2 Mulligan Instructors.

Prerequisite: To attend module I & II.

Pass mark: 80% as high is expected.

Exam retakes: Exam fee has to be paid again for exam retake.

Certificate renewal / reaccreditation: Not required.
