Program description:

This two course covers the basic skills necessary and to safely begin Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) and cupping techniques. Participants will receive hands-on instruction in the proper use of IASTM and cupping techniques through a lab-focused teaching format. The course will address proper instrument selection to address body contours and reach target tissues.

Program objectives:

Upon program completion, participants will:

• Understand basic concepts and principles of IASTM and dry cupping.
• Identify precautions and contraindications for IASTM and dry cupping.
• Understand and apply the correct IASTM treatment edges based on tissue and goals.
• Differentiate normal vs. abnormal soft tissue using IASTM assessment techniques.
• Select appropriate IASTM strokes and dry cupping techniques based on body region and tissue restriction.
• Integrate IASTM and dry cupping into a complete treatment plan including warm-up, intervention, stretching, exercises, and home care.
• Choose suitable treatments for movement dysfunctions like muscle imbalances, fascia restrictions, joint stiffness, scar tissue, and pain.
• Understand types, indications, and contraindications of cupping.
• Apply cupping to manage lymphatic dysfunction in various body areas

Treatment Techniques & Application

• Proper use of IASTM treatment edges (concave, convex, bevel types)
• Basic IASTM strokes and dry cupping techniques by region
• Lymphatic, scar tissue, and fascia-specific applications

• Developing full treatment plans: warm-up, manual therapy, exercises, home care

The Certified Practitioner Exam:

Exam Prerequisites: PT & OT (intern or graduate) with full-time attendance.

Certified Practitioner Requirements: Passing the final written online exam.

Pass mark: 80%

Exam retakes: free 3 times.
